Founded in 2024, Girl With A Movie Camera is an irregular online journal of film that celebrates media of all creations. The journal takes its name from Dziga Vertov's Man With A Movie Camera (1929), which in the spirit of his film, invites the curious to marvel at the things we appreciate the most.

Which is one of the many reasons I created this blog.
My name is Lana Spota and I write, film, edit, chat and watch. I am an artist / writer / painter / philosopher / filmmaker / director / chef / intellectual / poet / scientist / librarian / rock climber / (anything really) trapped inside the body of a teenage girl.
My home is Westchester, New York, but I'm currently living in Manhattan for university. I'm a quintuple Scorpio born on Halloween, and I take it pretty seriously.
I'm a huge fan of the French New Wave (you'll never stop hearing me talk about Rohmer), but I also love anything in the veins of techno-brutalism. One of my favorite things about loving and curating art is that your taste can range from anything to everything.
My goal in creating Girl With A Movie Camera is to expand on my knowledge of film and the viewer; think of this as a peek into someone's diary.
